The School of Gaming and Savonlinna Opera Festival are organizing the world's first opera in Minecraft. And not just any opera, but Mozart's The Magic Flute. Die Zauberflöte. The world premiere will be held in the form of a five-day summer camp from June 26th-30th. The starring roles will be played by the gamers participating in the camp.
Children of all ages are welcome to join as long as they are able to play Minecraft. They will be placed in age groups of 12 participants. The languages used will be Finnish and English. Experienced game educators and adventure architects from the School of Gaming will guide the gamers through the magical story of The Magic Flute. Along the way, they will also get a peek behind the scenes of the Savonlinna Opera Festival and learn about the history of this wonderful art form in a fun and motivating way.
The aim is to awaken interest in different, previously unknown things while learning crucial future skills such as teamwork and positive communication through Minecraft and gaming. Gamers learn stuff about music, opera, composers, but also problem-solving, friendship, emotions and history.
So pack your Minecraft gear with your camp brochure and magic sword and head to the world's most exciting summer camp!
Every camp day starts at 9 am (UTC+3). At 11 am we have an hour long lunch break. Games resume at noon and continue to 2 pm. Gaming is peppered with exercise breaks. And every evening gamers can do fun and inspiring offline camp quests if willing.
